  • Interstim Trial- Point Tender on the tail bone...

My trial interstim has been in almost a week. I am starting to itch like mad on my lower back where everything is taped down and gauzed up! I have also noticed that I have a spot just below all the gauze and tape, about 2-3 inches above my butt crack, that is EXTREMELY point tender. It's not covered, so it's not an incision point or anything. It's so tender that sitting up hurts and touching it hurts (I know, I know, don't touch it, LOL). It's not the electrical pulses...I've got that feeling down pat and it's in a different location.

Any ideas? I do go to the doc on Monday so I can talk to him if it's still bothering me then, but just wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this or knows what it might be.

    Thanks!

    ~Claudia

i had the same thing with the itching. i had a reaction to the tegaderm. my doc moved up my surgery 1 week for stage 2 because of this. i am getting my permenant today. yikes! also i had staples close to my tailbone that bothered me- he removed them yesterday ( 1 week) and it is soooo much better. good luck!

You could be allergic to the tape, I know I had a bad reaction to it, when I was in the hospital and had a drip in my arm..Where they had taped the drip hose I was all swollen and broke out..Just a thought! Hope you feel better soon

I agree the itching could be coming from the tape you have on. Also when you go in Monday mention the tailbone tender pain you are having..I hope things are still going well for you..

I itched after the trial from the Tegaderm as well -- I always itch from adhesives; actually I'm itching around the permanent incision right now. I think it is both tape and healing, although the incision site itself is still pretty tender.

I know I actually had a tiny incision right over my butt crack during the trial -- there was some dressing there during the trial. Maybe your wire placements are different because yours is for retention so you don't have that one incision; I don't know. I'd mention the tenderness to Dr. Evans on Monday...

If there's any redness there, you really should call your doctor today. It's probably just the itching that goes with healing, but there's also the remote possibility of infection.

Thanks everyone! It was funny last night after I posted, it was like that tender spot knew I was talking about it, because it began to throb until about 3:30am when I Finally was able to doze off.
I may have to have hubby peel back the gauze and tegaderm and try to get a look at things. He is coming home today, Thank God, he's been out of town on business since Tuesday. Anyway, hopefully he can help me take a look back there and see what's going on!
I AM very sensitive to tape, so I think the itching is related to that, but I don't know about the tender spot. When I touch it or sit on it, it feels like I fell on my butt and cracked it (okay, I know that looks like something Beavis and Butthead would say...but I mean cracked the bone! LOL).
I even thought about trying to put some ice on it to relieve the pain...of course with towels in between me and the ice pack to make sure it didn't get wet at all back there.
              I'll keep everyone posted...

                Hi Claudia

Sorry to hear about your discomfort, but glad to hear the Interstim is helping your retention. Thank you for sharing your diary with us. I think this may be something I will try. Not looking forward to the discomfort and pain, but willing to endure it if it means I can get rid of my suprapubic tube. Thanks again. Your diary is helpful to the rest of us who are trying to make our minds. Wishing you comfortable days ahead. Hugs.

Thanks, Ann. The discomfort is definitely worth it! I have not had to cath since I got the trial last Friday. Also, I have had normal BMs for the last 5 days...I can't remember the last time I had TWO in a row, much less 5!!

I wish you the best in making your decision and of course, if you have any other questions about the interstim and retention, I will do my best to answer them.
