  • Interstm Left Leg Pain

Hello my name is kim pryor

I just got my interstim implanted March 6,2007
So far so good, its working great BUT!
I am having Left leg pain the nerve pain
I saw my Doctor last week he said go home and mess with the programs see witch one helps.

I have 4 programs I tyed all of them
I tried 1 I have it set on 1.5 it causes pain.
I tried 2 I don't feel the stimulation But how ever it causes leg pain as well I turned it down for 4 days
I turned it up again it causes pain.
I tried 3 the same thing happened.
I tried program 4 it feels just like the first program. and yep you gause causes leg pain.
I see my doctor on Thursday I don't now what to do.
I was wondering if he removes the electrodes to the right side. I thought I would get some input on some one who has had the interstim...

I don't know, but I think I'd push for a better answer from your doctor and/or your Medtronic representative. "Go home and mess with the programs" is the easy way out -- if you are having true nerve pain, that's not a good thing and needs to be checked more carefully.

*Diagnosed with severe IC in 2004
*Also diagnosed with PFD, fibromyalgia, chronic myofascial pain, IBS, migraines, allergies/asthma, dermatographism
*Kept trying a million different treatments for all these things until I found what works, and I am doing okay these days with the help of a cocktail of medications and the InterStim, which was first placed in 2007. [I have had 2 revisions - one in 2010 when my battery died and had to be replaced, and one complete replacement (lead and generator) in 2012 after a fall on my stairs caused my lead to move.]
*Current meds include Atarax (50mg at night), Lyrica (150mg twice a day), Xanax (0.5mg at night and as needed), Zanaflex (4mg at night), hydrocodone (10/325, every 6 hours as needed), Advair, Nasonex, Singulair (10mg at night), oral contraceptives, home instills containing Elmiron and Marcaine (as often as I need to do them).

I have had my implant since 2002, so my control doesn't show the settings that exactly. Man I need an updated controller! LOL!. Every once in a while I have a strange sensation in my right leg and also have where my some of my right toes kind of pull in. It has been quite a while, but my doctor changed the settings and was fine. Like Jen said, give your medtronics rep a call. My implant does better when it's not on the cycle impulse, but on the constant, but we are all different.

Just to let you know you should not be having any kind of leg or nerve pain at all. I have to agree with Jen about what your doctor told you. Did he try to reprogram you in the office or only told you to go home and mess with your setting?? Also have you done anything you can think of that might have moved the leads lately??

I really would push for more answer from your doctor.
God grant me the serinity to withstand the days ahead!!!

              patricia,

No they haven't tried to reprogram me yet.
the doctor just said go home and mess with the programs.
I see my surgeon and my Rep on Thursday.

I did fall last week right on that side where I had the surgery.
but I still fell the impulse where it was when I came home from surgery..

Please let him know this when you see, that you fell. When my leads moved I still felt the impluse in the same way but it also starting messing with my nerves in my leg and so forth.

It maybe that you might just need a reprogramming from the doctors office and that might help. But it does not hurt to let them know you fell and ask them to take x-rays to compare to the ones they take when the put the perm. implant in.

The reprogramming definitely made a difference. Hopefully Thursday will come fast for you!

Thanks Kimmie! Next time I have an appt with the doctor that I would see when the Medtronics rep is in I will see about the new batteries. Luckily, I really haven't needed an official reprogramming. I have just used my own control when I am having problems with my urg/freq. The last year or so I have just needed to see my uro/gyno that is our local IC specialist to help with managing my pain and my sleep problems due to IC. I am pleased most of the time with him, I just miss my former doctor as do many of us from my area.

                  Thanks,
                  Tracey
