  • What is your fluid intake?

My dr. is wanting me to restrict my fluid intake to less than 64 oz. per day. I'm wondering those of you with frequency and the Stim or not, how much do you drink and how many times to you void? Thanks

  • #2
I drink six to eight cups per day, usually a little over six. I usually urinate eight to ten times a day. When I'm flaring, it's much more often.

Some days I only drink 1 cup of liquid. Others maybe 4 cups. I don't know how many times I void anymore. Stopped keeping track

Mary, you really need to increase your fluid intake. Concentrated urine is far more painful than diluted urine.

I drink probably 64 ounces a day. With Topamax and that amount of water, I urinate between 2-3 times a day, in a flare, upwards of 10+.

I drink about 5 cups of fluid a day, void 8-10x a day.

I'd like to drink more, but if I do, I'm in the bathroom all day long, which doesn't work for me as a teacher. I try to time the fluids to work well with the schedule, like small sips throughout the day & more when the students have gone home. And of course, I try not to drink too much before bed or I'll get no sleep. Grr.

Sigh, who'd have ever thought that one of the reasons teachers love summer vacation so much is being able to pee whenever they need to....

Kadi, I totally understand the teacher bit. I'm a private music teacher now in my home studio and am thankful every day I'm not in the school system. I would of had to quit my job.

Moonheart, does Topamax reduce daily voids? I'm not familiar with that med.

Since I have an indwelling catheter and even before that frequent infections I am supposed to drink a lot. I also find it so helpful in maintaining a recent weight loss. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I'm finding that it does. It also has taken away all bladder pain. Except for infrequent flares. Then I have more frequent voiding and bladder pain no matter what I eat or drink. It's also caused me to lose in the vicinity of 50+ pounds in 5-6 weeks. Which is helping the IC as well. There are several here that are trying it and several threads tracking their progress. You may want to check them out.

WOw - more power to any of you able to drink 64oz cups a day. I drink anywhere from 30-40oz, and was in the bathroom 20-24x/day. Just got the final Interstim implant, and I'm down to about 10 - will go for a re-program in a week and hopefully will go even lower. Incision is pretty painful, but if it works...for those who questioned the scar, it's only one incision, and then a few tiny "vampire bites", as I call them, where they inserted the leads.

as for how many times i'm voiding lately...? let me count...20+. at LEAST 20, sometimes 30-40.

I drink about 32 to 40 ounces a day. Unlike what some other people experience, I find that if my urine is clear that I have a lot more problems with pain and spasms. It shows we are all different.
