  • Diflucan to control systemic yeast/candida

Hi folks - my IC has been related to candida/yeast in the past. I got strep and I'm on a 10 day course of amoxicillian unfortunately. Havne't had to mess with antibiotics in years so I'm treading with great caution taking a lot of probiotics in between.

I'm now on the 5th day of a ten day course of Amoxicillin, just wanted to check in - as the yeast/candida is surely making itself known. Has Diflucan ever made anyone's IC symptoms worse? Just want to make sure before I ask the Dr for a script . One IC patient said that when they have to take Amoxicillan they ask the Dr. for two Diflucan prescriptions and they take one on Day 5 and the other on Day 10 to control the yeast/candida outbreak.

I just wanted to make sure that Diflucan has never made anyone worse or brought on their IC. I ask bc when I came down with IC I had several courses of antibiotics and then Diflucan to control my raging yeast infection and it did a number on my stomach/body but I'm not sure if it contributed to me coming down with IC or not.

    Thanks folks.

I have had problems with yeast in the past --- and Diflucan is not a problem for me. Yeast for me shows up as thrush in my mouth, which is awful --- thankfully, my primary care doctor takes my word for it and when I get a fuzzy tongue, a phone call to the office is all I need to do. Good luck!

    Warm hugs,
    Donna

When my IC first started I had never had a history of UTI or other pelvic issues. However, in the days preceding my first flare I took Diflucan for the first (and last) time because my initial symptoms resembled a yeast infection. I have no idea if it brought on my IC but I have often wondered.

I suspect that if you had symptoms before you took Diflucan (from your post, it looks like it) it was probably not the Diflucan.
