  • Stopping Medications

    Hi,

I am considering getting off all my medications for IC (Elmiron, hydroxzine and amitriplyine) for weight loss.

Background: the other year for about 8 months I didn’t take any medications and I felt fine the whole time. End of last year I started Elmiron and took it for about three months and didn’t see much of a difference but was generally feeling good. I had to stop due to a procedure and resumed about a month ago. I want to stop though. Do you think I needed to give it longer or the fact that I feel okay when I have barely taken it shows i don’t need it?

    need opinions! Thanks!

If you were doing well without Elmiron, given the expense and the potential for side effects over a long time, I think at least considering stopping it could be a good idea. If you've been taking the other two full time, I suggest talking with your doctor before stopping them.

it is a good idea to pause some time , but stopping without let your doctor know about may negatively affect you

What dosage is the amitriplyine? You could talk with your doctor about cutting back on that one --- there have been posts from others that it contributed to weight gain. If you're feeling good, I suggest you be cautious about your current routine. Elmiron can take up to six months or longer to be effective so it may very well be that it hasn't had any effect on your symptoms this soon.

        Sending well wishes,
