  • Prozac For Ic

Has anyone been prescribed Prozac or the generic fluoxetine hydrochloride for IC? I read in my pill book that Prozac can cause people to experience weight loss. In one study, 13% of people taking this drug lost more than 5% of their body weight.

I was wondering since most people don't like the weight gaining properties of Elavil including myself. My uro gave me nortriptyline which is the same family as Elavil but the 2nd generation. I had asked which had less appetite increase, nortriptyline or lexapro because I couldn't control my appetite on Elavil.

    Thanks

    Hi there,

Before my doctors figured out what was wrong with me (I was still hearing it is all in your head) they put me on Prozac. I am convinced that it made my IC worse. There have been a lot of strings on this, however. Maybe you can do a search on the message boards and see what others have said.

The other problem was that it made me "emotionless." Once I was off of it I realized I hadn't cried in 18 months. Not like I was looking for a reason to cry, but I actually "felt" emotion. I didn't realize I was not feeling things.....am I making sense?

I would be interested in other people's opinions......

      Hi,

I have taken Prozac before, twice I have tried it, and both times it gave me extreme anxiety. I had to take anti-antiety meds to stay on it. I finally said it wasn't worth it. The second time I tried it, I only tried it for a week, I actually had anxiety attacks. Some times I wish I was capable of taking some of these meds. I have many trouble with meds.

What about other SRRI santidepresants like Zoloft, wellbutrin, etc?
Why was Prozac prescribed for IC for the emotional part or to help with the pain? I'm taking Elavil 10 to 15 mg but I would Love to switch to a SRRI antidepresant if it'll help both with pain and the emotional part.

I think with antidepresants you have to find the one that will work for you, you should give it a 3 month try or so, people react diferently to them so you can't really compare yourself with others.
I've heard of Cymbalta which it is designed to treat both pain and depression but that would be a no no for me b/c the main side effect is dry mouth/dry eye and I already havea dry eye problem.

I'm curious if new generation antidepresants help with IC or V V pain.

Gy-Na-Tren for yeast infections (started using it as needed since 2010)
Other Rx:Omeprazole 20mg; benadryl as needed, Restasis

I don't think Wellbutrin is an SSRI. It isn't a tricyclic, so I'm not sure how it would be categorized.

Thanks for all of your replies. I am not on Prozac, but just wondered since Prozac doesn't have the weight gaining side effects of Elavil, and if Prozac worked for IC, it would be a great alternative. But, it seems that Prozac hasn't been prescribed for IC.

            Darn.
