  • Do you THink a Uro would prescribe

Elavil or Nortyptlilne for frequency and some pressure?. I don't really have much bladder pain. But, what seems to be UTI (which are negitive) come and go.

I'm wondering if I should ask uro for these?? I'm currently on enablex, which only seems to help me at night time because I only get up once.

    Thanks.

I was given Elavil to help my urgency/frequency. I had a problem with it and couldn't take it... so I can't tell you if it helped. Ultram has helped my urge feeling the most. It's still there and frustrating, but not quite as bad.

      ditropan

Ditropan helps me w/ frequency & urgency. I was skeptical as it is usually prescribed for overactive bladder but it did help me. Along with all the other junk I take, lol!

Elavil worked wonders for me, but made me gain to much weight so the doctor took me off of it..

I cant imagine why your URO wouldnt prescribe you one of these meds. Both, from my understanding, are fairly safe medications that prove helpful with managing IC symptoms.
I personally have had success with Elavil.

            elavil

Elavil did nothing for me except cause a 35 pound weight gain on my little 5 ft 2 body. And I have never even had a weight problem in my life. Losing the weight took me about 8 months. Ugh!!

              Help With Pain

              Hi all,

I was doing really well until I went off amytripthylene 2 weeks ago. I gained 20lbs (5'2) and was sluggish all the time. My energy level came back but now in a BAD flare. I still take elmiron, Zertek for allergies, and ambian for sleep. Can anyone suggest something that stops the spasms without the weight gain? I need help today. I am scared of getting back to the way I was in January when I was first diagnosed!

Elavil helps many people with different kinds of pain. My husband takes a low dose (10 mg.) nightly for arthritis pain. I, on the other hand, cannot take it. I was on it for only a few days before my blood pressure shot up to dangerous levels so I had to stop it.

                  Urine Change

My urine color has changed to yellow as Mountain Dew and I have had nothing but water since yesterday. My back and pelvic area are so sore. And I am super sensitive in vulvia area. It feels it has a heartbeat of its own!

I need some form of releif. I have left a voicemail for office nurse but I bet I get no reponse for a day or so. : (

Mary, I don't have anything that stops the "urge" feeling, but Ultram seems to dull it. I am now on Lexapro for depression (due to all this) and that seems to help a tad. I couldn't take Elavil due to a GI problem (it stopped all motility which was very painful). Lexapro or Paxil were the next drugs my doctor had in mind for me. Now, we're all different, but if you are depressed, see about getting something and maybe it will help. Paxil is know for its weight gain, but Lexapro is not as likely (some may). Again, Ultram helps me the most, but I'm afraid to become tolerant. I take it before bed because that is the only thing that helps me sleep. I am also on Atarax. While it doesn't seem to help my bladder, but my allergies are dramatically improved on it.

Good luck! Just talk with your doctor about trying meds. You may be limited due to other health situations, but these seem to dull my signals. I am hoping for something to stop it completely.

have you tried atarax yet? it seems to be dulling some of of the pain. i also went off elevil because of weight gain and now my pain is coming back so i went on nortryptiline. it can also cause weight gain but seems to be less likely to do so. i have the option of going up on the nort but i dont want to gain weight, so im stopping at 30mg. but i kind of know i need more than that. i'm also starting cystoprotek to see if that gives me a boost.
diagnosed IC Jan 2007 (though i feel i've had it mildly for years)
                        frequent UTIs
No frequency, just urgency and pain!

tramadol 50mg twice a day. this stuff works good for nerve pain!!!! (update, i'm down to mostly one pill a day now!)

Physical Therapy. if you have pelvic nerve pain or muscle pain, its worth a try. it helped me with the constant burning.

                        TENS may help a little

Cystoprotek might be helping as well. i'm getting better as time goes on and this could be why.

fish oil, herbal teas, skullcap (might try passionflower for nerves) I'm not very diet sensitive.

Went OFF elavil and nortryptiline (worked wonders, but didnt like the weight gain)

Mary, My doctor gave me something called urospaz. I took 2 doses but couldn't tolerate it (stomach problem). It is supposed to help spasms. Other than that... Atarax? Heating pads/cold compresses? Anticholinergics like Ditropan or Detrol or Vesicare...

I wish I could help you! Sorry that you feel so bad!
