amitriptyline just starting tonight little nervous

Just a question did anyone start off with 25mg. I don't know if that is the noramal starting point for pain and urinary frequency. Or is that a low dosage to start off with?
Just wondering any thought

I think thats kinda high to start out with as you don't know if it will make you super tired. Some people find it super sedating at first but then get used to it over a couple of weeks. I think most people might start with 10mg and then after a week or two go to the 25mg. You can always increase it earlier if you have no side effects. Alot of people never have to even go to the 25 as even the 10mg helps with frequency at night etc. I believe it works right away but builds up and improves symptoms over 3 to 4 weeks.

Drs will start their patients at different doses so some may start lower than 25mg but it is not an unreasonable dose to start with. It can have some sedating side effects that do go away after a week or so for most. If you are concerned with your dose, I suggest you call your Dr tomorrow.

I would start out lower I find that it just knocks me out. When I first started taking it I could not find my way to the bathroom much less back to the bed. I have been taking it for 2 years and I still take 12.5 mgs. I cut mine in half. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for the replys. I will definatly start a lower dose, the 25mgs knocked me out. I will see if the pharmacist can split them for me. That is way to high for me!!

I started at 25 mg and was drowsy the fist 2-3 days but I slept better than I had in years. I cut my dose in 1/2 and still sleep well. I do not ever want to quit taking it. I had nerve pain in my face that disappeared with the Elavil and I have not had a cold sore since I started taking it over a year ago.
