  • Switching from one Tricyclic to another

Has anyone had to switch from one Tricyclic to another, such as Amitriptyline to Noratriptyline etc.?

If so, how did it go? Any major side effects or counter actions?

    Diagnosed:
    Dec 2005
    Diagnosis:
    IC
    Cysto/Hydro:
    Dec 2005
    Other Conditions:
Anxiety, Insomnia, Chronic Sinusitis, Bursitis of the hip, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, PFD, Inflamitory Arthritis of the neck, Allergy to Yeast and Dairy
    Meds for IC:
Prosed/DS as needed which works much better for me than Pyridium, Prelief, Coffee Tamer, Claritin 5mgs and sodium bicarb as needed.
    Alternative Treatments
Physical therapy for 8 weeks, Acupuncture (just started).
    Other Meds:
    Skelaxin (as needed)
    Didn't work:
Detrol LA (didn't help symptoms), Pyridium 200mg isn't working very well anymore.
    Tried:
Elmiron (Major Dizziness), Hydrodistention (Greatly exacerbated IC symptoms), Urised (hard time breathing), Ditropan (bladder pain the next day), Rescue Instillations - Lidocane, sodium bicarb (all over body rash with itching),

I know that we have active members that have done this recently. Usually changing from one med to another is not a difficult thing to do. Your Dr will tell you how to go about the change. Some prefer nortryptiline to amitryptiline because the nor has fewer side effects than the ami. I found in the past that I prefer nor, for me it didn't cause weight gain and not such a sedating effect.

Thank you, I am seeing my uro today so will see what happens.

However my therapist says that if you develope a sensitivity to one tricyclic you will more than likely have a sensitivity to others. Gosh I hope that is not true for me.
