  • Question about Klonopin

I though I was in a remission, but my body seems to have changed its mind. Had nearly 4 weeks of being symptom free before it all flared up again about two weeks ago. No changes in diet or medication, and stress levels are about the same if not less. Doc thinks it may be pelvic floor dysfunction, so he has prescribed me Klonopin to see if that makes any difference. I was on this before back in college for anxiety and sleep issues, and my dosage back then was 0.5mg twice daily. My doctor gave me a 15 day trial of this today but on the bottle it says 'take 1 before bedtime or as needed.' If anyone has been given this before how should I interpret 'as needed?' Is once a day enough of a dose to help control pelvic muscle spasms? Dosage is 0.5mg.

    Currently also taking:

    10mg amitryptiline at night
25mg hydroxyzine at night (occasionally. Tends to cause pelvic/prostate pain)
    Cystoprotek
500mg Chlorazoxazon twice daily (discontinuing while trying Klonopin)

I was just prescribed this at the same dosage. I was told to take one at bedtime, and one in the morning.

      Klonopin

      Hi,
I've been taking Klonopin for years, for restless leg syndrome.
I take .5mg at bedtime but then I am super sensitive to meds so I always take a very low dose.
I'm a little surprised that your doctor wrote "as needed" in your scrip because my understanding was that Klonopin is supposed to be taken regularly. No stopping and starting.
In any case, I hope it works for you.
      Laurie

I start by saying I'm not a medical professional or doctor. However I find generic Klonopin to really help me, both bladder pain and pressure and pelvic floor. It relaxes the bladder and for me makes a big difference. I take it twice a day and have been doing so since 1996. It helps when other treatments do not. I started with 0.5 mg twice a dayj. However a pain clinic raised the dose over the years and I take two 0.5 mg in the morning and also before bedtime. I also take 20 mg later in afternoon of generic celexa and the two 0.5 mg of klonopin with 0.5 mg xanex before bedtime. I have generalized anziety and depression (from the IC etc.) as well. I suggest a pain clinic referred to by your doctor. Also my doctor wrote one a day on some medicine I take as needed and pain clinic said it should be 1-2 pills as needed. I told the doctor and he put that on the medicine bottle. I hope this helps.

Have you tried any antidepressants for the pain,if I took that much kolopin I would not be able to get up!lol Sometimes late afternoon I take a fourth and it helps me and then at bed time I will take a 0.5Mg and then if I still am hurting I might take another half around midnight.I would like to just stay on it because I have been on it since 2006 for a pinch nerve in my neck.

You said that the hydroxyzine can cause pelvic pain??? I wonder if that is why I burn!!

Yes, I am on generic Celexa. I guess everyone is diferent. As for the klonopin it works for me and I am following advise of my doctor and pain clinic. Sometimes I take a brief nap later in the day and find that helps me with the IC. Thank you for caring. Cutting it down caused excruciating flares. Roses and blessings to all here. May a cure for IC be found in our lifetimes.

P.S. Doctor, pain clinic and psychiatrist all agree I need the amount of Klinopin I am taking because I am diagnosed with generalized anxiety, so the klinopin works for that too. Too much anxiety = IC flare as well. Hoping everyone understands.

I have been on Klonopin for three years now since getting diagnosed with IC. I take it to deal with anxiety as well. It makes me able to handle my stressful job and not increase my urgency/frequency. I take 0.5 in the morning and 0.5 about 7 hours later. The thing about this drug is that works very rapidly...about 30min to 1 hour... and it likewise wears off very fast. For me, I take my next one 7 hours later because by the time the new dose starts to work, my previous dose is wearing off. I do not take it at night. I do also take two pills in very stressful situations and even 2.5 pills when I fly (that really sets me off). I am trying to get off it though as my body has gotten a tolerance to it. Have tried Buspar, Lexapro, and Prozac... all of which made my IC symptoms worse.

                      Klonopin

I am now taking two .05 pills at bedtime. I was resistent to taking this at first, but now I am glad I listened to my pelvic pain dr., as it is helping me sleep and stops me from getting up all night to go to the bathroom and change my icepack due to such bad pain. Krisssy

                        Klonopin

I was put on Klonopin about 6 years ago to block a pinch nerve in my neck and it works in the spine so my Dr.put me on it for that so now it will help the IC too.I sometimes take a half if for some reason I am stressed about something, like today because of an IV that was put in my hand Monday and now I have Phlebitis(inflammation of a vein) pretty much a little blood clot,so I am going back to the Dr. tomorrow and have that ck out!

                          Elavil

I am using 25 mg at night. Doc wants me to up to 50. I tried 37.5 last night and woke up depressed and had nausea. I took a Adivan and it helped. I don't think I can tolerate a higher dose. Elavil is supposed to have pain relief effects. I have a lower back problem and wonder if that triggers the bladder. Just had a back x-ray and the Rheumotologist will evaluate.
