  • Stopping Elavil

I am not sleeping very well while taking 20 mg Elavil. Also I wake up with nausea. I went to the Uro and he said to stop taking the Elavil. The problem is he did not say to tapper off of it. I saw my Gastro doc today and he said to tapper off take 1/2 mg for 10 days and then stop. Has anyone else had this problem with Elavil?

If you've been taking it for quite a while, you may need to taper off. The suggestion to take a half dose for ten days seems appropriate.

Donna, thanks. My stomach is so upset, I am hoping that is this is the cause of it all. Just for general info. My Gastro
thinks that UC San Francisco has an excellent Uro dept. I always thought that Stanford was the hospital of choice.

I am on 25 mg and stop every time I become pregnant. (Twice so far). My doctor does not have me taper and I've never had any issue with it. I would always follow the advice of your doctor, however.

Realized I didn't answer your original question! I've never had nausea with Elavil.

            Elavil

I am cutting the dosage in 1/2 for a week, per doc's orders.
I am taking 1 mg. of Lorazepam and Promethezine as needed. The 25 mg of Elavil was not really helping and he wanedt me to increase it - I must be very sensitive to these kind of drugs. I had an issue with Presidsone a few months ago. It appears that Elavil helps so many - be grateful.
