    Hi guys,

I have a question. Alot of you seem to be having good results with hydroxyzine. Is it helping with pain or frequency? I don't have pain. Just frequency and back pain when flaring.

I'm going to see Dr. Hanno on 1/9 and Dr. Whitmore on 1/12. I can't wait, I really need to talk to a specialist! I want to ask about all these other treatments, they're gonig to kill me when they see all the questions I have lmao

    Thanks, Erin

Hi, I had frequency/urgency but no pain (but the frequency/urgency was awful, peeing 60 times or more per day) and what has given me remission (so far) is a combo of Elmiron and Hydroxyzine. It is possible that some of my irritation was from some kind of allergic reaction maybe and maybe that's why the Atarax worked, I don't really know for sure.

There are so many different theories about IC out there, and IC may turn out to be many diseases lumped under one label, caused by many things.

It's worth it to try every remedy available, to discover the ones that work best for you. Good luck!

    Love, ICY

I use hydroxyzine in combination with a few other meds and it helped me greatly with frequency. That and some urethral/bladder discomfort was my main symptom. No pain to speak of.

      Diagnosed August 2001

Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Effexor (for depression & anxiety)

Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA, Lexapro (for depression & anxiety, but also helped my IC) (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)

I've been virtually symptom free and able to eat & drink whatever I'd like for about 8 years now.

Allegro helps me more than the other histamine blockers. I don't know why. Many doctors in my area are using Zurtec.

Hydroxyzine takes a few months to have the full mast cell inhibition results. I believe that it is one of the only antihistamines that is directly related to the mast cells which are in theory a part of the IC process. I read an article on this; I will look for it and post the link. wink
I think this is the article.... it is very interesting.
