  • Best Antidepressant for IC

Looking for opinions on the best antidepressant for IC and why... Obviously what works for one does not always work for another but I just want to know what people have had luck with. Please share your experiences. I had a bad experience with Elavil and Cymbalta. Going to my GP tomorrow as I have not made any further headway with 3 urologists. Living with IC feels like a life sentence. I've tried so many things already. My body can't take much more having severe IBS already and now IC.

Loneedshelp.....what didn't you like about Elavil?
I am about to get my rx filled tomorrow and was so looking forward to getting it.
I went to a therapist (first time for me) last week - disappointment.
I thought you were supposed to talk things over with them but he just told me I should be on Lexapro and should have been on it for years! I've heard bad things about Lexapro - don't know what to do now but I'm so anxious I feel I can't go on this way.

Since it's apparent that you have concerns about what's being ordered for you, you could ask your pharmacist to just fill a portion of the prescription so at least if you have any negative responses, you don't have a whole month's supply on hand.

It sounds like this doctor feels you are dealing with something that can be helped with medications --- I hope it works out for you.

          Rosary girl,
The Elavil was extremely mind altering and sedating for me. I also hallucinated along with several other side effects including insatiable hunger. Some posters have done well with Elavil while some of us really struggled. My advice if you try it: Go low and slow. Also, I agree with Donna. Get a portion of the pills filled if possible so if it doesn't work out, you aren't stuck with a months supply or more like me. I have 3 meds sitting at home that I'm not using but are paid for and it's a waste of money.
