    I take Pyridium

I take Pyridium everyday. I was very scared when I saw this post. So I did some research and from what I can figure out it is just discontinued in Canada. So hopefully they will not discontinue it in the US because I need it to get through the day...

I had a Pyridium Plus prescription from fall of 2009. It was the phenazopyridine/butabarbital/hyoscamine combo and not just hte phenazopyridine. I had been in remission for several years and it came back suddenly. I went to a urgent care center in horrible discomfort and specifically asked for it because I figured it was unlikely they would prescribe pain meds and needed some kind of relief. I was surprised I was able to fill it. I had heard it's rarely used anymore.

I am doing the same trying to find an anti-depressant that doesn't cause retention and allergic reactions with my pain med. At this point, I tried to go off the extended release med back to the regular release and all my pain came back even worse. So, I will keep looking for an antidepressant while going back on the time released pain med. Also, pain dr. has suggested a pain pump. All this stuff makes me nauseated and hurts my kidneys. I just want to look at removal at this point. I have heard Dr. Parson's is good, but don't know about beginning this process. Dr. Parson's is a long way away from me. Why did you choose Christopher Payne as an option? I haven't heard much about him. Could you PM me with info on this?

    Azo suggestion

Thanks Snowden for the suggestion. Yes I've taken azo, but by itself it doesn't help. It's part of my old pyridium plus that I started this thread with. I'm feeling like giving up. My pain mgmt dr says he can't do anything else for me. If Parson's can't help, I'll try Dr Christopher Payne at Stanford. I'm also seeing my shrink today on the endless hunt for an antidepressant. I've tried about 20 drugs over the yrs, but if the root cause (extreme pain) is still there??
I watch my diet carefully. I've given up going places by car because that always makes the pain so much worse. It's been a long haul- over 30 yrs- but my daughter's grown now and gone. I only make my husband miserable. I'm even depressing my dog. Ugh.

Azo is over the counter in the U.S. Can you take that? My daughter was just given a prescription for pyridium in the er 2 days ago. She filled it. They only gave her 2 days worth.

    Looking 4 substitute

My Dr confirmed the phenazo-pyridium-hyoscamine-butabarbital is discontinued. As a substitute she prescribed Donnatal and Phenazopyridium. Well that doesn't seem to help. I'm looking 4 something to help w/extreme pelvic cramping (in addition to the severe burning and other IC symptoms. This is only a year or so old for me, compared to 30 yrs of severe IC symptoms. Most likely I think I'm looking at a pelvic floor muscle spasm problem. Unfortunately there are no physical therapists within traveling distance for me. I'm flying to my annual appt w/Dr Parson's in 2 wks, but I'm hoping people can tell me what they do for PFD without a physical therapist. I don't even have any local urologists willing to help with my case.
My primary care dr Rxd vaginal diazepam to help with sleep.

But what else do people use for pelvic floor spasms? Any good ideas? I am currently doing 3 heparin/lidocaine installations daily along with opiod meds, but I'm sinking here. The pain is getting worse not better and like that old movie "I'm not going to take it anymore!".

I do believe it has been discontined. My Dr. gave me Prosed DS. It works for me.

started a topic Pyridium Plus discontinued?!

    Pyridium Plus discontinued?!

Has anyone else heard that pyridium plus and all generics are discontinued- no longer manufactured? It's phenazopyridine, butabarbital, and hyoscamine. My pharmacist says it's impossible to get this med under any generic name. It's my -nothing else is working, I'm dying- go to med that works better than anything although it makes me sleepy.
I don't really trust him on this issue since the same thing happened a few years ago and another pharmacist called me a few days later with a generic of the same ingredients.
I can't find anything about it on the internet. Does anyone else know anything?
