  • Discontinuing Prosed??

I went to pick up my prescriptions the other day, and the pharmacist told me that Prosed-DS is no longer being made, and that they couldn't find me an equivalent generic, either. Can this be true, or are they just confused? I can't seem to find anything out there confirming the pharmacist's claims, and I can't imagine a company discontinuing this medicine without providing an alternative. If this is true, what are other people using as a substitute?

Have you called your doctor to ask about a substitute? If not, I suggest you do so before you run out.

Yes, I've called. They told me the doctor is looking into the issue and will have something for me on Monday, but I am surprised that Prosed would no longer be available.

I just picked up the generic version of this today. The pharmacist didn't mention anything about it being discontinued.

Exactly what I was going to say. I just filled my last Rx for Prosed and it cost $60 for 28 pills (1 week's worth @ 4 per day). The pharmacist did not say anything about Prosed being discontinued. In fact, he suggested I look into the Hyophen because of the savings, not because Prosed was being discontinued. Anyway, I asked my uro about it and she wrote me a new prescription for the Hyophen and I got 120 of them for $10. HUGE savings and the Hyophen works just as well for me.

My physician gave me urogesic pills and some hyophen pills to try and see which help more. They are both similar to prosed, but not exact. I am so frustrated with this. I know many people are much worse off, but I'm still trying to work everyday with this pain.

                  Uribel

There is another "blue pee" medicaiton out there. I have it - it is fairly new and called Uribel. I don't think it works as well as utira-c did for me. I was able to go their website and get a coupon for it. It is very expensive, but not so bad with the discount. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information. I have tried the Urogesic and the Hyophen in the past 2-3 weeks. The Hyophen is almost the same formulations as the Prosed and it works better than the Urogesic. Of course, only CVS carries it in our city. But for the time being, it is helping.

So is hyophen the generic??? They told me at Walgreens there is no generic of prosed. I don't mind the 40 bucks a month i pay for prosed. I heard and read on line that as of OCt 13 there isa manufacturing glitch. I just took the last of the last 60 they had. I jsut posted another thread on the alternative I got. I don't know anything about it. They gave me phosphasal??? Same exact ingredients. I can't find it on the gluten free drug list though and it has stearic acid. I heard bad things abotu that ingredient and was wondering if it was bad for IC. Has anyone heard of it? Maybe I will look into this hyophen.

Yes, the Hyophen is generic and so far, I've only found it at CVS.

So has Prosed for sure been discontinued?

I took it in the past and had good luck with it and no noticeable side effects. Recently I took Uribel and the side effects were awful and I had to go off of it. I'm not sure if that's because my body's changed since I have a lot more health stuff going on now and much less tolerance to medications, or if Uribel is different enough from Prosed to explain the change. I plan to ask my doctor about hyophen on the next visit. I hope it will be easier to tolerate than the Uribel.
