  • I quit Elmiron today.

I just couldn't stand it. I was so sick to my stomach, my head was killing me, and I had those purple spots on my chest. I called the Urologist's office, but he's out of town. They told me to go ahead and quit taking it. I tried the medicine without the capsule and I was still sick.

(((((((((hugs)))))))))) I am so very very sorry. With so few meds actually treating IC and only one oral I know that must have been a difficult dicission. I hope you can find relief without it. Best of luck to you.

      Blue,

I am sorry that Elmiron gave you hard time, but you are not the only one. I couldn't tolerate it, either. I took it without the capsule and it still irritated my stomach. Besides, I think it irritated my bladder a little bit and increased my frequency.

I hope you can find relief in some other oral medications.

      God bless you.

My Gyno had me taking Imipramine before. It's a antidepressant. It helped for awhile. He prescribed it for a year before I ended up going to a Urologist. I'm wondering if the Imipramine in a higher dose would help. I used to have alot of leg pain. It was horrible. Well, in January of 2003 they Gyno gave me the Imipramine for frequent urination. Then in February of 2003 I had a hernia repair done. Over time, the leg pain went away. I didn't know if the hernia repair had something to do with it, or if it was the medication. Now, I've been off the Imipramine for about 7 wks and the leg pain is back. I was never diagnosed with anything for the leg pain, but it had me crying daily. So, I'm going to ask the Urologist what he thinks.

I'm sorry that Elmiron didn't work for you. After taking it for a while, I found that it wasn't working for me. I was doing well with it at first and then one day my stomach was senstive to it and I felt sick all the time. Right now I'm taking prelief with food and that's about it. I need to find a new uro, one who specializes in IC. Anyway. I hope that you are feeling good w/o it and I hope they find something else for you to take.

            Hi Blue,

Sorry about the Elmiron. It didn't work for me, but it's still a great med that gives people their lives back. Maybe you could tolerate DMSO instills?

About the Imapramine, I think it helped you because antidepressants to provide pain relief for ICers. I think it has to do with interfering with the pain receptors. Maybe a higher dose would be beneficial for you? It's worth talking to the doctor about if it has helped you before.

I hope you find something that works, don't give up!

            Hugs and love,

              Hi, Blue

I had been put on imipramine for half year. My urogyno increased my dosage from 25mg-50mg a day. 25mg a day hleped me for a couple of months but suddenly it stopped and then up to 50mg. My frequency was cut down from 16-20 times a day to about 12 a day. However, I had many side effects on 50mg. Didn't gain weight, but had palpitation, constipation, low blood pressure and excessive sweat.

Now I am on 12.5mg Elavil. I can tolerate Elavil better than imipramine.
