Help!!! Question about cholesterol meds + elmiron

My cholesterol jumped to 265 last year and I have been trying to bring it down with diet and exercise but am failing miserably. My doctor wants me to go on cholesterol lowering drugs. I'm on Elmiron, Hydorxyzine and use zantac and other OTC heartburn meds frequently. I also use Tylenol occasionally. I'm worried about taking cholesterol lowering drugs since many of these other meds are supposed to have an effect on the liver if not watched closely. I guess I am looking for others who are on Elmiron and cholesterol lowering drugs and seeking your experience with taking both. Thanks in advance for any help and advice you can give me about taking these together!

Lipitor

I take Elmiron, Elavil, Lipitor 10 mg. I have had no elevation in liver enzymes which I check every three months. My cholesterol is now around 180-190 and my ratio is 3.5. All this on only 10 mg of Lipitor.
Statins are very good to help with inflammations in the body, and heaven knows ICers can use help with that. I only take 10 mg because I used to take red rice yeast but it turned out over time it was cheaper to just take the RX. Just start out low, if 10 mg dont do it, raise it.
I have had no problems at all with this drug, I also always take CO-Q10, 100 mg with each tablet as statins stop the liver from producting a optimal amount of Co-Q10 which is needed by every cell in the body and especially in heart health.

Thanks again, Sammi! You have been very helpful here. I think my doc wanted to put me on Zetia. Have you heard anything about this one?

My cholesterol is now 295 and I am told to take some of the drugs . Not sure which one to take. I do take Elmiron 3times a day. Did not know that the statins have an anti inflamation effect

Zetia

Zetia works a little differently from a Statin as statins block the liver from producing cholesterol, Zetia works in the digestive tract. Sometimes people take them both, but Zetia also can elevate liver enzymes and has its own set of side effects.
Google Statin drugs and just read some of the research on statins. If people have an allergy to them they can have muscle problems, but the majority of people are not allergic to them and do just fine. Always take CO-Q 10 with a statin.
