My dentist wrote me an Rx for toothpaste. High flouride content & no SLS. Brand name is Prevident although i use the generic which costs less than $7 I think. Not for use by pregnant or nursing mothers. There are some others that can be prescribed by your dentist. My mouth is super sensitive to SLS. Most OTC toothpastes burn my tongue & mouth like a fire ablaze, but Prevident gives me none of this.

I found this link that gives you an idea of some SLS-free toothpaste available.I have never ordered from this site. I am including it for information purposes only. Good luck!

Have you tried Rembrandt anti-canker sore toothpaste?

I'm not on elmiron, but I'm very prone to mouth ulcers/canker sores. I found the same information a previous poster said, that any toothpaste with sodium laurel sulfate is going to make things worse. I use Rembrandt anti-canker sore toothpaste and it has worked great for me. I recommend it to anyone who complains of canker sores and it works for them, too. I cannot always find it in stores, so I order it from drugstore.com. Good luck -- I know how miserable sores in the mouth can be!

    Liquid Lidocaine

SOrry to hear about your mouth ulcers. My daughter and husband are very prone to them. I have them take l-lysine tablets every day and it really aids in the prevention of them.

My sister inadvertently found a great mouth ulcer pain reliever! Liquid lydocaine. Her dr prescribed it for her during a particularly painful throat infection. Our family tried it for the ulcers & got an Rx from our family physician. We just apply it with a Q-tip. It is fairly inexpensive. Works great for some of us and not so well for others.

All of my pain is in the morning, so he said to try taking all 3 pills at night. And then the mouth ulcers came. Tonight the dentist gave me a Rx for some medicine. Without insurance the box of medicine was almost $2,100. It better clear up my mouth by the time I wake up. If I didn't have insurance, I would have gone without. The pharmacist said the over the counter medicine for canker sores is just a waste of money. That explains why I didn't get any relief from the one I bought last week. The new medicine tastes awful - but if it works I guess it will be worth it.

Hi Heidi. I am just curious: why did your Doctor tell you to take all three pills at night? Strange. I take one pill in the morning and one at night. I have had sores in my mouth, minor ones that cleared up fast. I'm very sorry you are suffering from that. I wish I could think of something to help you but I can't. Keep us posted. I care, Ziggy

I haven't had them yet, but I am prone to them.

I would switch toothpastes. If your toothpaste contains sodium lauryl sulfate, it will be highly irritating to your mucous membranes. If you switch, you should see some relief. Your mouth needs to heal.

    Hope you feel better soon.

    started a topic Mouth Ulcers

    Mouth Ulcers

Recently my uro told me to start taking all 3 Elmiron doses at night. It has helped a great deal.
The bad side is that I have been getting mouth ulcers (boy do they hurt). I went back and read the side effects of Elmiron and it does say that some people got mouth ulcers. Does anyone else get them and if so, what do you do about them? The OTC medicine I bought hasn't cleared them up.
Working...
