I was prescribed Lyrica for sciatica. That nerve was sending shooting pains down my leg. I started taking Lyrica and that pain disappeared and... my bladder and vulvular pain lessened also. I was happily surprised.
Keep track of your reactions and let your doc know what's happening.

    Lyrica

I take 150mg of Lyrica as well. Two times a day. It helps me for the everyday pain but not for large flares. Of all of the medications I have taken it has the least amount of side effects and is well tolerated. I've never gotten worse from Lyrica and have not gotten UTI's from it. I had no problems with constipation from it either. If you take a few pills and don't like it you can always tell your doctor that you are uncomfortable with taking it any further if the side effects are intolerable to you.

    Good Luck to you!

Yes, that's what I meant about stabbing and shooting pains. I get those in my bladder sometimes. It also helps with burning.

I am glad the lyrica helps you. But does it help with the bladder pain itself? I am needing something to help me with this pain. I am going to try it tonight.

I am taking 150mg of Lyrica twice a day. It has really helped me out -- takes away a lot of the shooting, stabbing nerve pain, and it has been like a magic bullet for my fibromyalgia (yeah, it still flares up, but I don't have all day muscle pain like I used to)

I have had no side effects from the medication. The first day I took it I was a bit tired, but that disappeared by the next day. Since then, all has been well.

Lyrica can be very effective in pain control. You are in extreme pain. You need pain relief. There are some with IC who are taking this medication. The good thing is that it can help --- and if you do have side effects, they will go away when you stop the medication.

Some pain medications help with pain by interfering with the pain receptors in the nerve system, which can be very effective in keeping pain levels down.

    Scared to start lyrica?

I am suppose to start taking Lyrica today. I am so nervous about it though. I have read that it has made some people's IC worse and caused UTIs. That is enough to scare me out of taking it.

Also read it causes some severe fluid retention in some. I hate meds. Also, I worry about it causing urine retention, since I already feel like I retain some urine as it is in the bladder. I have not heard of many people with IC that take lyrica. Is this not a drug that is normally used to treat IC? I know it is a nerve pain med like neurontin. How will this help IC?

I am so nervous. My pharnacist said it can cause constipation also. That is the last thing I need. I always get this way when it comes to taking any new meds because I always tend to get alot of unwanted side effects from them.
