Briza was so right about it may take several months to calm an irritated bladder. I kept thinking that my bladder should have calmed down immediately after eliminating certain foods and I was so impatient. What a difference I've seen now after eliminating just the basic no no's of citrus, black tea, coffee, and alcohol for a few months.

Renate, I had that happen a couple of weeks ago when I ate a banana. It was the first time that happened to me but I was pretty sure I knew what caused it. I had another "pain" episode on Sunday and think it could be from sex. The thing is, I was fine DURING; the pain didn't show up until the next day. Also, I have noticed just this week that I'm having some random pain that I think may be hormone-related. My period is due next week. I don't know for sure if those things are what triggered the pain for me but I'm just saying that it might not be the food at all that caused it for you. It seems like sometimes triggers can be related to things you might not immediately think of. You might want to think if there's anything else that could've set your bladder off. I hope this passes quickly for you!

Thanks so much earth lady! I really don't know what I would do without this site! I cry everyday all day which I am sure a lot of fellow suffers can relate too!

I would phone your dr. who prescribed the elmiron and ask for a pain med and I wouldn't be shy about it. In the meantime try a heating pad and hot baths or an ice pack or both. I've alternated between heat and ice. Camomile tea has actually helped me quite a bit when my bladder was spasming. I know the pain can be scary. I was petrified when I had my first really painful flare. I kept thinking omg I'll be in pain forever- but I wasn't, and am now doing quite well.

    Flare!

    Hi,

I think I am in my first Flare! I have horrible pain today, it almost feels like My Uterus or my Womb a stabbing pain! I have never had a pain flare since being diagnosed on April 27th and my symptoms of frequency came on pretty quick but no pain till now! I don't have any pain med's just taking Elmiron! I have been trying the IC diet and following only foods on the friendly list but It confuses me so much how do I know it something on the freindly list could be a problem Like it I am eating non seasoned chicken and white rice and steamed fat free milk how do I know which of them could be bothering my bladder? I am so confused from everything and the pain has got me terrified!
