  • Elmiron not covered by INS

I am starting a new job and will be getting new health insurance in three months and I am worried about paying for Elmiron. A few people I know are telling me that they have to pay $300+ a month for their Elmiron and they have good insurance through their jobs. I don't understand, how could it be this much with insurance? Does anyone on here have to pay that much a month with insurance? I am worried because I will not be able to afford that and know I will not qualify for "help" from the company that makes it. Elmiron has helped me sooooo mush with my IC and I cannot stop taking it and take the chance of all that pain coming back. Has anyone ever had experience with getting insurance to cover drugs that they do not cover at all?
    Daily Meds:

Ditropan XL 5 BID, Elavil 50 QD, Elmiron 200 BID, Hydroxine 50 BID. As Needed: Bacofen 20, Prosed DS, Hydrocodone/Apap.

    Other Meds
    Adderal 10 QD, Remmeron 37 QD (I take 1 1/2 of 25 mg)

With the help of my doctor moving my meds around a bit by increasing this and decreasing that I have found a good combination of meds (for now and I pray a long time from now).

If your doctor will help, you may be able to appeal the insurance company decision and get it covered.

It may be that Elmiron is not on your preferred list of medications, I would ask your doctor to write a letter stating it's the only FDA approved drug for IC this should help.
