I had a CBC last week and the results show that my white count and platelets are low. My doctor wants to recheck in 4 weeks to see if there is any change. Has anyone else had this issue? Could it be caused by Elmiron?

Mine is low and was still low after the 4 weeks retest.
I am not on elmiron.
If you are still low in 4 weeks see what your Dr. suggests.
I suggest you write down the what the 2 number's were, if you get sick down the road and they do a WBC to see if you are fighting an infection, they may need to know what your normal number is.
EG: If you are normally a 1 and you test at 6, but normal is 4 for most people, they may figure you are not very sick as your number has only gone up by 2, but for you it actually has gone up by 5 meaning you are sicker.
These are totally fictional numbers as I am not sure what WBC counts should be, but you get the gist.
My normal body temp is 96.2, so everything I have to go into see the nurse if I get sick she will take my temp and it will be 99 and she will say well no temp. I remind her it is a temp for me, they usually just ignore me, but then when they tell my Dr. he reminds them for me that is a temp. But this only works if the Dr. on emerg is my Dr.
I have been thinking about getting him to write me a note that says my normal WBC and Normal body temp, so if I get sick while not at home I have a record of it to show Dr's.
It is on the front of my file that if I say I want Antibiotics they are to be prescribed for me with or without normal symptoms. A long story but a friend of mine ran into a lot of trouble with her normal Dr. being away and having to see 2 other Dr's who would not prescribe Ab's and she ended up in hospital for a week which could have been averted if the other Dr's had listened to her.
Good luck MGMyare with you all. May you all find a way to peace and joy in your lives.

body temp
mothergoose - did you say your temp was 96.2 - that is low! Is that in the early morning? My naturopath said if my early morn temp was 97.2 or lower before getting out of bed (hard to do with IC) then she would suspect low thryroid. There is this low temp connection maybe with IC and hormones, cortisol, thryroid. What does doc say?I got IC in 1970! I was not diagnosed until 1991. I've tried many drugs and therapies but I tend to only resort to drugs when in a flare because when I am not in a flare (from being good on diet), I suffer only from small bladder volume (like about 7 ozs.) and peeing will relieve the discomfort. When I am feeling relatively normal, I say to myself I am glad I am not on a drug. When I am in a flare, I say, why am I not on a drug! I've recently have been trying to solve my connective issue problems in general. I look to diet and herbs mostly unless it gets really bad. I still think there is great hope for each individual finding a path to healing and there are many.

I have low thyroid and I take medication for it, I have had a low body temp for ever, been on thyroid meds for a few years, the thyroid meds didn't make a difference to my body temp. That is pretty much anytime for me if i don't have an infection, I will go up to 96.8 sometimes later in the day.
One Dr. years ago had me taking my temp every 3 hrs all day long and recording it, but he could never figure it out, and my thyroid was not low then.
I recently had my hormons checked and I am past menopause, he said a little young to be completed and all without a hot flash.
As far as I know I have not had my cortisol level checked, but it would not surprise me if mine were high.
A connection I don't know, but I don't think they really do know exactly what has a connection to IC.
MGMyare with you all. May you all find a way to peace and joy in your lives.

This is an interesting question that pops up frequently. I have low WBC count and do not take Elmiron. They discovered it when I was diagnosed. It kept me (thankfully) from participating in a research trial at the time.
Do a search on the forums. I bet there are several threads on this over the last few years.Julie Beyer, MA, RDN
