    Coincidence?

    I am on day 5 of Elmiron and day 3 of Elavil. I don't want to jinx anything, but it seems like I've seen some improvement already. Now I'm not sure if it's the Elavil, the Elmiron, spontaneous remission, or a combination .

    Everything I've read says Elmiron won't work for a while, so could I possibly not need it? I don't know what I should be doing now. I'd rather be symptom free and not have to take Elmiron of course. I'm thinking of taking it for another few days and then taking a break. If I get bad again, I'll just restart and hope it's still effective. Any thoughts?

    It could be the elavil for sure! Elmiron I dont think woud be working quite yet, but glad your feeling better! Thats what matters!

    I have little to no problems now with my bladder, unless I am very stressed out, I forget to take Elmiron for a few days, or I eat or drink something that I know is a trigger...(i.e) like eating a tomato or drinking tea.... Took a long time to get here, but it IS possible to feel good again I just want people who are new to know that IT CAN get better, and for every one person who is suffering, there are hundreds of others who feel GREAT because they have control of thier IC.

    What Works: Tylenol 3's, Pyridium, Elmiron (Going on 4 years now!) HOT showers!!!

    Medications/ Vitamins: Elmiron-100mg 4x's daily Tylenol 3's/Advil (flaring) Vitamin D, WILD salmon oil 4x gels in the morning, Women's ONE a DAY multivitamin (the gummy kind doesn't make me flare) and PROBIOTICS!

      I also suspect it's the elavil that's helping. Elmiron takes much longer. However, if the elmiron does work well for you, it could be the only medication you need later on.

      It's your choice, of course.

        Elavil started working for me within 3 days. The difference was huge in my level of pelvic pain. I've been off it for a little over a week now for this pregnancy, and I'm DREADING the pain coming back.

        I'm still patiently popping my 300 mg a day of Elmiron, waiting for something to happen. Only costs me $15 a month, so I guess I'll just stay on it indefinitely. (It's been 9 months).
        Symtoms started July 2010.
        Severe pelvic floor pain only.

        2 time PT graduate!
        In medical remission since August 2011; able to eat and drink anything I want currently.

        IC meds:
        200 mg Elmiron in the morning
        100 mg Elmiron @ night
        Macrobid after intercourse

        03/11 07/11 01/12
        If at first you don't succeed: 07/26/2013!

          Hey what dosage were you taking of the elavil? I want to try it to see if it will help with frequency but im worried about retention! I did take it once about 6 months ago ( the dr gave me a way higher dose though and I had terrible rtention!!!) Glad that it worked so fast for you! This is awesome news! Congrats on your pregnancy!!!!

            I was on 25 mg a night. It greatly relieved my pelvic pain, but Hydroxyzine did the most for me in the way of bladder symptoms. Thankfully, Benadryl seems to help just as much, and is pregnancy-safe. It does make me exhausted though, which Hydroxyzine never did.

              Good for all of you for who elavil is working, unfortunately it did not help me with my frequency and urgency, it only made me tired and dry. I took it for months without success, I stopped it and restart it again and unfortunately I am just one of few for who elavil doesn´t do a thing

              I am not an English native.
              ***************************************
              I am starting with raw food diet, juices and green smoothies and salads. Nothing else (rx meds and holistic things like cystoprotek, IC aloe vera) helps with my frequency, urgency and burning. I was also tested and I am gluten sensitive, lactose intolerant, few other food allergies, so all in all it made perfect sense to try go "raw". Fingers crossed

              Right now I am on:
              Vesicare 5 mg
              Other stuff:
              Herbal mix for bladder and kidneys
              Herbal mix for adrenals
              Fish Oil
              Bladder Control
              Colostrum
              Probiotics
