    other dietary options?

Supplements can only go so far, ideally most of our nutrients should come from diet. Green leafy vegetables life kale, collards, broccoli, and spinach are excellent sources of calcium, and whole grains (like whole grain bread and cereals) are also. Check it out:

    http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/calcium/

if you scroll down, there is a table with a few examples of calcium-dense foods other than (and including) milk and dairy.

I use CVS brand calcium citrate with D3 but have also used Good Neighbor Pharmacy brand and neither brand has ever bothered me.

    Hi,

Thank you so much ladies for your responses. So, Tums is okay generally for people to take daily long term? That would be great if that would work. I guess I would just need to verify with her doctor how much to give her:-) The prelief is a good idea too. The calcium citrate is helpful too:-) Earthlady, which brand do you use?

Thank you Kadi, Donna, and Earthlady. I truly appreciate your input:-) You've all given me some excellent ideas!

My doctor recommended Tums --- I purchase the white ones.

I take calcium citrate and have never had a problem with it bothering my bladder. In fact I think it helps. I like the citrate because it doesn't have to be taken with food and doesn't need stomach acid to be assimilated. Makes it more convenient to take.

I don't know about those ingredients, but I take Prelief- calcium glycerophosphate (a calcium supplement designed to neutralize acids in foods) - many of us actually use this to get a little more freedom with our diets. And plain white TUMS - calcium carbonate, are fine for me also.

    calcium supplement ingredients okay?

    Hi,

I'm looking for a calcium supplement for my daughter who has IC. I'm worried that she's not drinking enough milk and she can't have yogurt very often because it bothers her if she eats it too much. Most of the ones I've found are flavored with things that would probably irritate her bladder. I did find one and I was curious to hear any input on the ingredients...

Calcium (as aminoate complex) Magnesium (as aminoate complex)

    Additional ingredients_
fructose, natural vanilla, spinach (spinacea oleracea leaf extract), broccoli (brassica oleracea floret extract), fig concentrate, date concentrate, stearic acid and magnesium concentrate.

I have asked her doctor about giving her a calcium supplement and he has given us the green light. I just need to pick one now....

    Thanks for any input,
    Jill
