  • Help! Better option for Baking Soda?

Hi Everyone. I have been in a nasty flare for a few weeks now and I'm desperate to make it stop. Yesterday was the type of day where every time I went to the bathroom as I walked away I already felt like I had to ago again
So this morning I tested my urine and it was pretty acidic. I have taken baking soda before and it really helps when my urine is really acidic. I took 1tsp this morning and I have seen great improvement today. My question is, is there any more tolerable way to take the baking soda? I just mix it with water and drink but it is unbearable! It's like taking the most salty thing you have ever tasted and magnifying it 100x. It really makes me gag but it helps so I do it...but I think too that I do it as a last resort. If it was more tolerable then I'd probably do it more often and be in less flares!

    Any suggestions help! Thanks!
    Symptoms began at age 19.
    Diagnosed at age 27.

My symptoms include pressure, frequency, painful urgency, burning, and low back pain.

I also have IBS, Candida, and Adrenal Fatigue.

I am very diet sensitive. I've known about my IC for over two years now and I'm still trying to figure out what I can and cannot eat.

Having IC can be devastating. It has given me depression, hopelessness, and anxiety that can make every day tasks daunting. My supportive husband, prayer, and my faith in God keep me going each day

I agree the taste is terrible. I chug it,drink without stopping till it's gone and have a mint or gum to pop in my mouth as soon as it's all swallowed.
Baking soda water has been a lifesaver to me at times.Having burning is worse than the taste to me.

Sometimes if you hold your nose while you chug it down it can help with taste. If you put it in a small amount of water and follow with a glass of plain water, that can help.

I have high blood pressure so can't do the soda, but I've found that plain white Tums works pretty well for me.

Hi everyone and thanks for the replies I have low blood pressure so I think I should be ok. I'll make sure not to take it too often though. Sounds like I just gotta suck it up and keep taking it, but thanks Donna for the Tums suggestion. I will definitely give those a try!
