  • Macular Degeneration & Vit C

Just came from the eye doctor and learned I have the beginning of Macular Degeneration.

He recommended PreserVision but after buying it I noticed it has Vit. C in it. In fact, by the time I take four capsules per day, I will have 452 mg of Vitamin C. Of course, the sample packet only listed Lutein and Zeaxanthin.
I did remember to ask if there was anything in it that would cause IC problems and he ask NO!!!! Obviously, not an IC specialist.

I know Vitamin C is tough on IC and have avoided it for years. Do you think if I take Prelief before the pills, it might help?

I am sure some of you out there must have Macular Generation. What do you take??

My other thought is to take the Lutein and Zeaxanthin separately. Assuming I can purchase them separately. Would, of course, ask the doctor first.

The list of vitamins in the bottle are as follows: The dosage is double when I take it twice a day.

Does anyone else see anything else that may cause me trouble?

    Vitamin C - 226 mg
    Vitamin E - 200 IU
    Zinc - 34.8 mg
    copper 0.8 mg
Omega-3 fatty acids 325 mg EOA, 175 mg DHA
    Lutein 5 mg
    Zeaxanthin 1 mg

Guess no one is in the same boat as me.

I was able to purchase all the drugs separately. Not the exact dosages but they will have to do. Seems all the vitamins for the eyes have Vitamin C in them.

The only one I've tried is the Lutein. I will add an additional pill within a week.

Vitamin C in the original formula was a killer for me.

In researching the pills, I did find out not to take Zinc without adding Copper.

      Hi Fran,

Did you try to take one of the capsules? When people take vitamin C supplements they often take 500 mg at a time. Your supplement has less than half that in one dose. Be sure you split it up, taking it twice a day instead of all at once. You might just be ok.

FYI, my mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law both had AMD. It is NOT something to mess with. It is your vision, after all. Good luck...

        Julie,

Yes, I did try to take them but they seemed to bother my bladder.

I do plan to try to take them again but we are going away for a few days and I am afraid to take another one right now.

I'll be in our Miata for at least 3 l/2 hours. I'll be taking my IC pillow and stopping frequently!!!! Anyone else on the IC network going to Lancaster to the Buggies and Bridges event???

I'll post when I try them again.

        Thanks for the reply.

I tried the Preservision again and spent the day running to the bathroom. Vitamin C is really not for me.

I have purchased all the drugs (except Vit. C) separately and am doing okay on them. I plan to purchase Ester C to add to the rest of the pills.

Can anyone recommend a brand of Ester C that works for them?
