  • Has anyone had bladder rebuilt from your colon?

My doctor is sending me to a surgeon soon and has mentioned having a bladder built from my colon and removing my horrible bladder. Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!!

It sounds like he is talking about an Indiana Pouch --- if you do an internet search for that, you will come up with a wealth of information.

This I have not heard of. I would research it and see what you come up with.

My internal pouch is made from my transverse colon. What would you like to know?

There are primarily three Urinary Diversions to choose from if your bladder is removed : Ileal Conduit, Indiana Pouch, and Neo Bladder
Use Google to find out more about them.

I would definitely avoid the neo-bladder. From what I Was told, this is not a good choice as you still have your urethra in place as you will have to catheterize when you have a neo- bladder to get the urine out. Not a very good alternative in my opinion.

My bladder is going downhill fast due to the bladder cancer. I have had visible blood in my urine since February. I have less and less control of my bladder and my output is about a tablespoon each void. I think I'm retaining fluid/urine, too. I am having surgery on Monday to get a new tumor in my bladder removed and so that my new uro-surgeon can determine the extent of the cancer. When I saw him last, he briefly described the urinary diversions and said he prefers the ileal conduit because "it's idiot-proof". We don't know for certain yet that my bladder will need to be removed but I'm thinking it's inevitable. I will know more after Monday.

I am so sorry you are dealing with all this Bladderella. I hope all goes well with your Surgery on Monday. I agree, I have heard the ileal-conduit also has the least complications as well. Just want you to know you are in my thoughts and prayers that all goes smoothly on Monday. Sending well wishes and healing hugs your way...

I just got the Indiana Pouch. He didn’t completely remove my Urethra. I think this was a mistake.

How long ago was your surgery? I know it can take quite a while to recover from this surgery.

You are still very new to your surgery. It's going to take weeks (or months) of healing. I know you will have questions during your recovery --- please feel free to post --- we do have members who have had the same surgery.
