A stent is a tiny little tube that they put in the ureter to help keep it open. When you first get your urostomy they put them in both the ureters to help keep them open and draining, but they take them out after a certain period of time- usually after a week or so. Not everyone has them long term. They also use stents in other parts of the body- like in the arteries and veins that go into the heart.

What is a stent? Is there more than one after urostomy? What is it for? Does everybody who has the bladder removed have it?
