It did not interfere with my sex drive at all. None of my female parts were harmed or altered during these operations. I did ask about this. It's really important to be able to communicate with your surgeon about these issues.

    Eva,

It's wonderful to see that you haven't lost your sense of humour even after all that you have been through with ic and having major surgery. Give yourself more time to heal and if the pain is gone and the drive is there, you will be able to make up what you missed out on. Seriously, I'm so happy that you are doing quite well in your recovery. You have given me hope and it's positive stories like yours that I am hanging on to, to get me through each day until I can also have surgery. I wish you well and hope your quality of life is significantly better and you can enjoy life once again and be happy.

I had my bladder removed Feb.2 2007. My sex drive is actually stronger although I haven't been cleared yet to have sex. I have a feeling I'm gonna have a lot of fun rediscovering what I have been missing these last several months!

    Penpal,

These are good questions to ask your Doctor.

My urologist did the surgery for my internal pouch. Do you have a urologist? Have you been told that your bladder needs to come out? Yes it is helpful to bring your records with you when you see a new doctor.

Just a thought have you tried the interstim? that is an option before bladder removal.

Yes, the Interstim was tried and it did not work for me. In fact, it made my conditon worse.

    Judith,

What type of surgeon do I need to find? Also, does it help to bring 17 years of medical proof what hasn't worked?

    Thanks!

Having the surgery if done properly, should not affect sexual relations, if anything it may get better. I would ask your surgeon. Everyone is different and initially right after the surgery of they take out the urethra you may find that certain positions no longer work. Then you get to have fun trying out new ones! Usually you need to abstain for 6-8 weeks after the surgery to let things heal, but again every doctor has a different time frame as to what you can or can not do.

    Sexuality question regarding bladder removal

I am someone who has it chronic, and has had it now for 30 years. Been there and done everything. I know this is a last resort thing, which is why I have these questions as consideration may be in my future.

For those who have had bladder removal, does it decrease your sex drive afterward? Does sex hurt more or less? Does it also kill the nerves in the important parts or just the ones that matter?

    Thanks!
