  • Happy New years

hello my fellow IC (bladder removal) friends
I hope you all have a safe, healthy & painfree New years.
I have to be honest and say I am so fed up with feeling like crap it is driving me nuts.
I am a little over 2 months post-op from having a abcess removed, hernia repaired and urostomy stoma & loop moved to my otherside. I had many major surgeries done before this. I am the one who had all the spasms which we found out later was caused by the abcess which was caused by draining a cyst that was caused by the piece that connected my urethra and bladder that was left in me.
My fustration is right now is the spasms come back if I move around a lot. Like standing or walking around for more than 5 to 10 minutes. I feel like I can't do anything. I want to get my body back into shape. I have gained weight because of this and my uro is telling me to loose weight. Not as easy as it sounds when you can't move!! What is proventing me from moving?? The fear that the spasms may cause another hernia. This past surgery was horrible. I do not want to go through it again. Does anyone have any suggestions????

        Lynn,
Sorry things are still not improving. I wish I could think of some type of suggestion. My only thoughts are to try to do things in tiny, tiny increments, keep a diary of what is possible to do and what makes things the worst. Maybe by doing this you can find some activities that are possible. Hope the coming new year is better for you.

          Happy New Year

          Lynn,
I wish I had some brilliant suggestion for you.
You did say that you are two months post-op so you're still healing from a lot of surgery. Hopefully in time, things will settle down and you will feel more comfortable about getting back to you life.

I am wishing you a speedy recovery and a healthier new year.

          Warm Hugs,
          Laurie

            Thanks Judith and Laurie
It is 12:53am the new year rung in 53minutes ago and I have been sitting since 8:30pm with back to back spasms. I am so afraid to wake up my husband as I just don't know what to do. I don't know whether to go to the ER and get some meds to calm them down before they get too out of hand and cause another hernia or something else. It is a little different from the last time they are not all wopping hard hard contractions of the muscles peeking and letting go. these ones started at 8:30pm and it peeked and went away then I had another one and it just seemed to peek and half went away and my stomach (pelvic area) feels all tight and hasn't let up since then, I then get peeks of hard ones and pain the whole time. If I stand up and walk it makes them worse. Man I hate this. Can't decide to Call the ER and ask if I should go in. Should I wake my husband to bring me or should I tough it out until morning. Oh already have taken 2 dilated (2mg a pc) haven't even touched it. NOt a happy camper so far in 2011

So sorry Lynn. Perhaps you might want to try something for anxiety. Sometimes the anticipation will tense you up so much it will cause a problem. Maybe just a mild dose of xanax or similar? Just a thought. Please let us know how you are.

Does heat help the spasms at all?

                    Hi all
They are not as close together (strong ones) but the underlying muscles are still tight. I really don't think anxiety as I am on many drugs that double for anxiety and muscle spasms and I am able to breath through them to help them not be so hard. It is very difficult to discribe. When they going up to its peek it feels like when you get water up your nose a realy burning pain along with the muscles tightening. I hurt a lot where the hurnia was I am assumeing that it is because it is was just sowed up 2 months ago. Thanks for thinking of me. I am going to keep tract of how many spasms I am having.

Jeez Lyn, it sounds like you are in constant labor. Breathing through the spasms is probably the smartest thing you can do non invasively. I hope these ease up today. Can you try to relax in a hot bath?

                        Hi Judith
I did take a hot shower but just the shower running on my stomach would cause a spasm anything touching my stomach will trigger a spasm that is how sensitive it is. It started slowing down around 1pm but started back in around 4pm with a few and then just the tight feeling that just stays around. I took pain meds all day today in hopes it would relax my body some. I am now going to bed I hope I can sleep.

                          Lynn,

I hope you are feeling better. I had my hernia repaired and my stoma moved too Aug 17th and I still can't stand to wear anything on my belly, it is still sore!

I go back to my surgeon next Monday, so hopefully he can shine some light on why it still hurts.

I sure pray that this year is better for us ALL!!

                          hugs and blessings

Lynne, hopefully you are feeling better and not in the hospital by now.
Mary, it may be nerve damage that is the cause of your pain. I know that for me even though it has years since having abdominal surgery when the the weather is a certain way I still get pain/aches in the area of my scar.

                              Judith,

My PCP wants me to start exercising in a warm pool for my fibro. What do you put over your stoma while swimming? I use hy-tape over my stoma daily but I've tried it in the tub to see if it is water proof, however, it comes right off, and it is suppose to be water proof. Do you have any ideas??

                              thank you in advance.

                              I'm sorry I hi-jacked this post!

                              Many hugs and blessings
