Where are you located? Usually you can find surgeons at major medical centers and teaching hospitals that do it and also specialty centers like Mayo Clinic. The best is to start with hospitals close to you so if you have any post op problems it will not be an issue to go back for follow up. Have you been told that you need the surgery? If so and your uro does not do it then maybe they know of surgeons who do.

I am pretty sure they do them at Cleveland Clinic.
Cathy it is not an easy surgery, the recovery can be long. Once your bladder is out there is no going back, so do try EVERYTHING that they can offer you before getting the mindset that surgery is the only way. I had no other options and was told it had to come out. That was back in 1986.

Cathy,
Judith is correct in saying it is a very difficult surgery. I just passed my 1 yr anniversary (Jan. 7 2010)and still feel not completly healed. But I did have many complications.
Has your uros said this is what is needed?? I tried everything conventional and unconventional there was to try.
My reg uro sent me to a very good surgical uro-oncologist that removed my bladder and urethra in Cincinnati Ohio.
Many hugs and blessings,MARY
Serenity isn't freedom from the storm.....it's peace within the storm.....I had my sick bladder removed Jan 7th 2010.....Even though I had many complications.......I would do it again in a moment.....I have no regrets......Sunflowers in memory of my sister who passed March 14th 2010......they were her favorite....

Cathy, I had Dr Mark Delworth. But if I had to do it over again. I would have definitely went to Cleveland Clinic. Their urology department is very knowledgeable. Hope this helps, Blessings,MARY

Maryla,
I was going to travel to NC to see Dr Robert Evans. I am in Indiana. Cleveland OHIO is a closer drive for me (4 hrs versus a 11 hr drive to NC). Can you tell me if there is a good doctor I should request at the Cleveland Clinic? I am willing to cancel my appt in NC if you know someone in OH who is very good and is experienced with bladder removals?
Thanks,
Susan

Dr gong at the Cleveland clinic is amazing! The first surgeon who actually cares and will make sure to call you often to make sure you are well! He did my IN pouch in Dec. the only problem I am now having is stones that are coming through the catheter and causing pains. Has anyone else have this?
