  • MIGRAINES: restarting

    hi all

I know this is not the bladder stuff but in my mind I link them b/c all of this stuff kinda started together. I don't think they are related, but I'm still miserable.

I don't know if this is starting to rear it's ugly head because I can't see my Chiro like I was ( I see him about every 14-17 days vs. 7 days when he was healthy) My migraines were awful, like daily and piercing (vomitting, and eye brightness) and he started working on me and discovered my neck was compressed. He spends alot of time on my neck. I spend alot of the time yelling ouch. My Migraines have woken me the last 4 nights around 4 am with the sudden urge to puke. I have been workingin the yard the last couple days so I am very sore but my right arm, which has been a major bugger for the past 2 months is numb. there is no nerve impigment, we've had a C-T AND MRI; My chiro is suspicious of reg. doc's for the most part, especially since they screwed up his dx and told him he has IC and turns out he has terminal bladder cancer. (nother story for those who don't know it) so when I see him he always runs through the reflexes and the other tests to ensure I isn't a disc or nerve. But the damn Migraines are from my tight muscles right under my C-1 vertabrae. I just can't take waking up to my body hurting ALLLL OVER and vomiting with a migraine kills. I have to give myself a shot to stop the pain (Imitrix)

the ***** is, my husband is so used to my pains, he just takes them in stride and still expects dinner on the table and laundry for his week.

I've got to go. My right side of my face feels like it is ready to pop off.I need to ice the back of my head. do you know even oxy doesn't touch these?

    I'm feeling very whiny.

Oh Tracey, I'm so sorry that your having these horrible migraines. I can only imagine what you are going through.

I know how frustrating hubby's can be. Hubby was nice when I was sick but I still ended up cooking and stuff but when he's sick now he acts like the world is ending and he can't do anything. So I was sick and still doing alot around the house and now I'm better but EVERYONE else is sick so now I have to do everything because everybody else is too sick to help out at all. It really sucks being the wife and mommy sometimes. I hope you feel better really soon
    Christine

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

        Tracey,

I'm so sorry to hear about your Migranes. I was wondering if any of your Doctors has mentioned trying a muscle relaxer to help ease the tense muscles? Does the Imitrex help with easing the symptoms of your Migranes such as the vomitting?

I hope you find someone to help you while you wait for your Doctor to recover from his bladder cancer.

My urologist is a big fan of diazapam for me. and I have a med for the pukes...usually for medications but I take it when I get migraines. Problem is, these are what I call the "freight train" variety. (Out of no where the freight train of the migraine hits me...When i worked, my staff was in tuned to me so closely they knew before I did when a migraine when was going to hit. My eyes would go red under...where normally people have dark circles, and I would begin to pace) I figured out the pacing was waiting for it hit me and it did, within about 15 minutes.. At that time, I had a nurse on my staff so she would give me my shot b/c I am an extreme baby about it. (IT HURTS...not the stabbing but the meds going into my body!!!! Now I have to do it to myself at 4 am for the last 4 nights.) I don't much care for it. tried to wake my husband once to help but that was a disaster. Heck...I had food poisening once when my kids were 6 and 3 mons, respectively, and passed out on the bathroom floor. My lovable husband woke up to pee and thoughfully stepped over my and urinated and stepped over me to go back to bed ( he said he could see I was breathing!!!!!) I grabbed his ankle and said "get the kids dressed and get me some clean sweats, we are going to the hospital" . they finally got all under control.

I just want 3 days of pain free 24 hours each day, no spasms any whre, poop and pee when i damn well feel like it, and not feel like a walking accident or driving off the edge of a cliff from sleepiness. My arm is numb, I am falling asleep as I typw and it's onlh 730 ,,,,I know.."wah F...ing wah" If I was still full of female eqiupment, I'd have chocolate and blame it on my tim4e of the month.

I hurt. I need to sleep. I really want about 5 tequila shooter but I think they wouldn't combine with my meds well. (coma, anyone?) 'geez, I miss tequila....Anyone for a virtual Margarita party? Damn, I have an awesome Cadillac Margarita recipe

          Gotta go! Thank u all.

Sorry you are feeling so bad! I used to get migraines 1-2 times a month before my hysterectomy. There must have been some sort of hormonal connection to mine b/c they always came right before my period and when I ovulated. They were horrific! But, after I had my hysterectomy, I have only had one since then.

But, I definately remember that feeling and it was so bad! My husband is alot like yours. He has just become desensitized and uncompassionate b/c I am sick so much. (Though I dont recall it EVER bothering him!) I wish I knew what to tell you there, but unfortunately, I am in the same boat as you with my husband!

I hope that your migraine is over by the time you read this. I feel so bad for you! Please try to rest all you can. I know with mine, I had to lay perfectly still. It seemed like if I moved at all, I'd get sick again. Bless your heart! I hope it is over by now, but if not, pls go in to see your Dr. today. MAybe they can give you a shot of something stronger.

            Sending hugs,
            Amy

Do you by chance take a daily preventative med for your migraines?

Tracey honey! Why isn't your Topomax working?

Do you think the Morphine is too high of a dose? Is it causing rebound headaches or anything?

Please write to me and tell me you're okay, please? I'm so sorry I didn't see this before.

Unless something's pinched, or it's rebound, it doesn't make sense that you're Topomax isn't working. Maybe the dose needs to be raised. Migraine prevention usually needs to go all the way up to 4-500mg usually. So maybe that's it.

                Call me pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase................

Understand how painful migraine headaches are and the folks that have not had them cannot understand.

I had migraines on and off for years, starting when I was a child.

Finally my Doctor diagnosed me with hypothyroidism and slowly over time and with increases in my thyroid hormones my migraines have gone away.
My migraines were connected to my low thyroid disease.

You might want to check aspect of miigraine causes out, in case it is just that simple for you.

I am happy to be migraine free.

IHurttoo: well the migraine was over, but came back at it's nice 4 am time (I've taken to a plastic bucket next to my bed because I wake so suddenly) Mine is definately not hormonal. We had that figured out before my hyster. But my Chiro can get rid of them almost instantly. I remember a time I went into his office, while on my lunch break, (obviously b/4 IC) and I had to pick up papers for insurance. I had a migraine but tried to hide it b/c I knew he would want to fix it and I couldn't afford it and it was his lunch. He handed me the papers and then looked at my eyes (I just can't hide that bright red under my eyeballs) and told me to lay down. I told him I was fine and that I had to get back but he wouldn't let me leave and he spent 15 minutes just on the migraine, upper neck and when I got up my color was normal and pain gone. OHHH those were the days. Unfort. he just can't see me as often b/c he is sick. I try not to dwell on it, he has been much more than a doctor for me, a very good friend.

Anyway, I don't think it's rebound b/c I've been on MS contin for 4 years solid. Like I take an ER dose every 12 hours and it is quite high...I do take Oxy but try to keep it minimal (like my belly has to be screaming, although my doc doesn't like that, he wants me to take the IR meds when I need) Topomax has already lowered my IQ score to the neanderthal range seriously....I'm already taking a close to Max dose sooo....that's my preventative. I try to put ice packs under my skull at night, and sometimes heat on my shoulders because of spasms. I am trying to convince my doc to get a CT or MRI of my neck (C-1 to T-1 ish) so I can just be sure there is no impingement, The pain in my damn arm is now to where I have to use hairspray with my lefthand hand because me right can't squeeze the trigger. The pain goes from my shoulder blade (now) over my deltoid don the inside of my bicep and over my elbow (original spot and now extremely painful) and down whatever muscle controls my trigger, ring, and middle fingers. (flipping people off has gotten lame...it's semi erect )

We've run all the tests for stuff like thyroid (actually, checked my thyroid at least 4 times in past 6- 7 years) my blood work usually checks out good, except for the RH test that came back so high a few weeks ago (I think my physical condition is related to that).

At my docs clinic, he now has a super migraine specialist. she is supposed to be one of the best... My doc has been talking about referring me to her.

                    Thank you all for listening!

MakinIT, I know this is going to sound over-simplistic, but maybe it could help you until you get your chiro back.

I too have suffered from migraines for years. Yours sound similar to mine in that meds didn't help, but when my chiro would work on my neck, it helped instantly! But I moved 2,000 miles away from him and I'm on my own now.

About a year ago a fried sent me a Trigger Point Massage Therapy book. They sell it on the Internet. I also have Fibromyalgia, so this book really helped. I could look at the pictures of pain locations and rub the trigger point and aleviate a lot of my pain. I use it on my husband too. He's a steel worker and gets knotted up regularly. His legs go numb and I can fix it!

A couple of months ago I sent away for a tool that allows you to self-massage your own back and neck. THE RELIEF WAS INSTANT AND HUGE! It's a big plastic S-curve with small plastic knobs on the ends. It allows me to reach behind myself and get out the knots in my shoulders, back, and most of all: neck. The difference is astounding! I use it at least 3 times a day to keep my muscles from knotting and to keep the headaches away. My constant pain levels have gone from an 8 to a 5. It might be worth getting the book from the library if it would help you even a little bit. Hope you're doing better!

                      HUGS,

Thanks for that input...my chiro actually allowed me to borrow something simiar to that for a while and it was nice...But I've come to find out, after some MRI's last weekend, I have severe arthritis in my cervicle vertabrae (C-2 to C-5) and thorasic (T-2 and T-4)

since I wrote last, my doc increase my topomax to 200 mgs, which helps alittle but my neck and mid back hurt more and each day. apparently it is supposed to freeze up eventually but I'm bound and determine to find something to fix it so that doesn't happen. I am in so much pain now, I'm ready to start chewing my arm off to distract myself.
