  • My IC worst since I moved to a different city

Ok, am I going crazy? I moved to a new city in central california several months ago from southern california and my IC is worst. My medications work better when I visit down in southern california. I can even sleep during the night. but once I get back home nothing works. I have severe nocturia also. I have to live out here for another 2 years. I know that this city has a high air toxicity and alot of allergens in the air. That may be a factor. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced a worsening of symptoms relocating to another city, state, or country. and Im not under any stress.-thanks
Diagnosed with IC October 2009- through bladder biopsy (no glomerations or hunners ulcers found, just irritation)

    I have moderate-severe IC

Currently stopped taking all medications due to pregnancy

Hmmmmm --- you might want to try drinking bottled spring water for a while. It's possible that a change in drinking water could be a problem.

Donna has a good idea I have been drinking purified bottled water and I believe it helps. The normal water supply in the citys system has so many chemicals that can possibly cause flares. The botttled water is cycled through several times leaving it virtually pure. I hope you feel better soon, let us know if this helps you.

This is an interesting question because I just had an IC patient who had the same thing going on. When in one place fine, when in another flared like crazy.

We talked about water, but also, allergens are different in different places. It could be pollen or even something in the home.

We also discussed the different stresses that may have occurred in the different locations. Even the move itself could cause extended stress.

Sometimes peoples' sexual relationships have changed (maybe a marriage or new boyfriend was the reason the patient moved) and it is "easier" to believe the location is the problem and not the sexual activity.

Have you tried keeping a symptoms diary? Be sure to record everything going on with you. You never know what your own reflections can teach you. :-)

              New City

Yes I do believe you that is why I really don't like leaving the Inland Empire any more meaning Riverside county San Bernardino County its to hard for me dragging all the medication around and I cath 2 to 3 times a day so its no fun for me to be out. In the last month I went to Big Bear with a friend she has a time share there and it was fun its a 1 1/2 from my house just in case I need to come home for what ever (I forgot the bag with the caths) reason . I wish you good luck and a fast 2 years out there and then quick get back to Cali there is no were like Good old California.
              Blessings,
              Ruth

                  Change of location

It is interesting that you post about this because this is one of my many theories as to how my bladder got to be the way it is now...

It all began after we vacationed a couple of days out of state, then we came back home and I took antibiotics--I felt better for over a month!

We then moved a few minutes into a new house, and after a few weeks, the symptoms returned. While I am on medication, I am still staying away from the water, so I'm only drinking spring water and I'm not washing my "area" with that water in the shower; I've been using baby wipes.

My husband noticed a pickish ring around out tub and in master bedroom toilet, so it looks like it could be iron/magnesium overload or mold/bacteria.

I've read that these are normal and harmless, but one can never be sure how their body will react to something.

Allergies effect my bladder a great deal. I can eat most foods on the IC NO list but not those that I am allergic to even if I am just a tinny bit allergic to the food. My bladder also flares more than normal in the spring and fall. I live in KY in the Ohio Valley where allergies are ramped. My IC doc said that during the spring and fall the number of IC patients that call in wanting to check for a bladder infection increases substantially. So it I think it really could be allergies. That said can I ask are you drinking the same type of bottled water at both places? If not you might want to try that.

If it is allergies you might want to take or ask your IC doc about increasing your hydroyxine. In the mean time you could take an over the counter allergy med at night, just an idea.
                    Daily Meds:

                    IC-Meds
Ditropan XL 5 BID, Elavil 50 QD, Elmiron 200 BID, Hydroxine 50 BID. As Needed: Bacofen 20, Prosed DS, Hydrocodone/Apap.

                    Other Meds
                    Adderal 10 QD, Remmeron 37 QD (I take 1 1/2 of 25 mg)

With the help of my doctor moving my meds around a bit by increasing this and decreasing that I have found a good combination of meds (for now and I pray a long time from now).

I would not use baby wipes at all, I tried that and it irritated my bladder end up with a uti. I clean with fresh water only and I do not drink spring water instead purified water with no additives.
I have a feeling if you do the same you will see an improvement, I tried also to do a mild douch which was a big no no.

My IC is TOTALLY allergy and ozone related. I just moved from the south where the hot weather kept the allergens in the air high and the ozone was always bad. Every April - October I would be in terrible pain with my IC, even if I stayed indoors (you have to get out sometimes). My IC doc said that they see such an increase in patients during the hot, bad ozone days they can barely keep up.

I have since moved to the cold north and my IC is pretty much in remission. I do get a flare once or twice in the short summer we have up here, but for the most part, the air is cleaner, the allergies are not as bad and the ozone is always good - not level orange or red, like it was in the south! Which is also why everyone where I used to live had allergies and asthma!

I can now eat and drink pretty much anything I want since I moved to the cold north. The only time I have to be careful with my diet is in the 3 short summer months when allergies are a bit higher (when the cottonwood trees are blowing).

I don't think I could ever move back to the south.
